Very provocative, Ralph! I see a difficult dilemma in design education in promoting a space for creative endeavors as you defend versus training designers to be ready to perform in the industry. We must also consider the market pressures that influence that dilemma and do allow too much space for a critical or exploratory design. I personally don’t believe there is a right or wrong answer there, both options can coexist and it is great that they do, because they make each other richer.
