Every startup in the world wants to become a unicorn (i.e., a company that’s valued at $1 billion or more). However, as we all closely track and monitor the list of unicorns in Silicon Valley and around the world, it’s important to keep sight of the “baby unicorns”, the companies that have a high potential of becoming the next unicorns (check out this post our CTO, Yunkai, wrote here).

So, how do you spot a baby unicorn? There are 5 characteristics that are embodied in a few companies that you may or may not have heard of and I will be covering each in a 5-part series.

For starters, and part 1 of the series, baby unicorns have a magical horn, which possesses strength and power.

This translates to the strong valuation and funding that a baby unicorn company has.

For the first company in this series, we’ll be highlighting Coursera, a baby unicorn that has a very prominent horn.
