Our Vision

One small action can make a big change. That is what we realised after watching the documentary “Landfill Harmonic’’, which shows how a small community that lived from other people’s garbage, managed to transform waste into musical instruments and use them in a student’s orchestra.

For us the question was how we could also make a change for our community. We might not face a massive garbage problem, but we do have a serious problem of overproduction and waste of clothing items and fabrics in general. Considering the environmental pollution that is caused from massive amounts of textiles, produced to fulfil “fast fashion’s” demands, we came up with the idea of creating “ReFab” (from the combination of the words Recycle & Fabric). ReFab, is going to contribute to recycling and reuse of all types of fabrics here in Greece and aims to cooperate with fashion and interior designers, cutting rooms, tailors, clothing brands, customers, as well as any businesses that involve textiles.

In other words, Refab will manage to recycle all types of fabric by shredding them and then distributing them to furniture and carpet companies. What’s more, it will offer to students, artists, crafters, sewers, teachers and other designers the opportunity of reusing these fabrics for a small currency.

A corresponding company called “FABSCRAP”, which deals with nearly the same problem as we do, made up our inspiration. This company established in 2016 in US by Jessica Schreiber . (http://fabscrap.org/about/)
