Christina Wodtke that’s a very good point — Ive had that conversation with a lot of people (especially since I’ve published this post) and it always ends with remembering that “privilege” is not synonymous with “no suffering/no hardship/only prosperity.” This conversation has also come up with clients I had who were seeing me for trauma counseling … it’s a difficult conversation to have, but I feel like it is one that can only be had on this foundation: that the other person experiences your genuine care about their hardships in life and your willingness to listen to their story/how they are processing “privilege” in light of it.
