Day 0: The Project

Dylan and I have something called an idea book.

Every morning we think of new strategies and ways we can improve upon what we’re doing at Vizer. Most days these ideas don’t materialize. But sometimes, something comes along that lights a fire in both of us.

Our latest idea, 100 days of fitness, did just that.

Early last week, we were speaking with a woman about her thoughts on exercise. She was raving about a boutique fitness studio she joined offering hip hop dance workout classes. She shared that although she had always been active, until this studio, she never enjoyed exercising (which was a sentiment I certainly shared, minus the always active part). The way her eyes lit up, the huge smile on her face, the boundless energy she described it with — it made me wonder if my “thing” was out there and I just hadn’t found it yet.

So I started creating a list of all the studios in San Diego offering introductory specials. I wanted to try everything available and see what would work for me. The list was comprehensive; it included classics like boot-camp, spin, and circuit training. But also more unique offerings, such as parkour, martial arts, and water aerobics.

Dylan joined in on the search, and the more studios we added, the more tangible the health and wellness experience in San Diego became. We had always felt so strongly that this was the city to launch Vizer in. But as we read more about the offerings, checked out the reviews online, and browsed photos and videos, the fitness community in San Diego came alive.

We wanted to meet these people — to hear their stories — to feel that same energy the woman had shared with us. We wanted to immerse ourselves in this world. And from that, this project was born.

We are going to take 100 fitness classes throughout San Diego county and share our experience at each one with you all. If you want to join us on our 100 days of fitness journey, we’ll be including location information in each post, interviewing instructors along the way, and filming content at each studio.
