I completely agree with you. My family went to the south in the 70's. The educators never said it was about slavery or that the Confederacy was wrong. For all the people who think it was State’s rights, the Confederate constitution is pretty clear that they were bound by their common commitment to slavery.

They were put up on public parks to intimidate freed slaves and hide whites from the truth about the Confederacy.

So, I’ve got an idea… Why not have a program to install a statue of Lincoln 20 feet from these any Confederate statue that does not already have one? Zero I bet. It must be the same height or taller. stands equal or higher than the Confederate one. It can include the emancipation proclamation or Gettysburg address at the discretion of the local community.
