Today, we are thrilled to announce that Keith Rabois is coming to Khosla Ventures as a managing director starting this month.

Keith was at Khosla Ventures for six years starting in 2013 where he led several of our marquee investments and then was at Founders Fund where we worked closely with him on several investments.

Keith will be based in Miami, giving us a presence in that growing ecosystem.

Today’s news comes on the heels of us completing our largest fundraise yet at $3.1 billion, beating our expected amount in a harsh environment. The raise is across our Main, Seed and Opportunity funds.

In 2013, when we hired Keith Rabois from Square into Khosla Ventures, I said the following in a blog post:

When I recruited Keith, what I kept asking myself wasn’t whether he’d be a great investor (which he is), but rather whether he’d be sought out by entrepreneurs as a mentor, advisor, and board member. Almost all our reference-checking was done with entrepreneurs (successful and aspiring, seasoned and first-timers), not other investors. The reference checks repeatedly elicited feedback like “He asks the toughest questions”; “He pushes me the most and makes me think”; “He’s always there when I need help”; “Most valuable among all my board members and advisors”; “Doesn’t just tell me what I want to hear”; “Can imagine the future”; “Helps with recruiting”; and on and on. He knows how to advise entrepreneurs on hiring/firing, running teams, managing funding, when/how to control burn rate, and making other tough management decisions in the real environment of startups. He’s a practical hands-on kind of guy in growing companies, and he fits Khosla Ventures’ “venture assistance model” of people who have earned the right to advise entrepreneurs.

All of this still holds true for Keith today. We are more than thrilled to have him back on the team making bold bets early into companies that are impactful to large segments of the GDP and pushing our founders to do the impossible.
