Article cover.

Being a keen fan of typography, I started collecting type gems. As a visual designer, it’s sometimes hard for me to pick a font without putting it in the context. Even though there are Fonts in Use or Typewolf, I like to create my own compositions. With that in mind, I decided to share my favorites with you.

Charon

“Inspired by the finesse and shadow play of engraved tombstones in a labyrinthine cemetery in Buenos Aires,” Charon is definitely a typeface to add to your collection.

Take a look at the “C” and “G” letters, they tend to sting your finger. The font comes in one weight, so make sure you use it in a large size.

Khalos

A typeface from one of my favorite type design studios, Blaze Type. They describe Khalos as “long spiky serifs and highly contrasted round shapes, balance between elegance and barbed feelings.”

Just look at the “A” in flat pants standing next to the snaky “C” that’s about to bite you in a second. And “T” is like Dracula eating ice cream, so all you see is the stick in his mouth. Pure beauty.

PP Migra

Migra is described as “a spiky serif typeface inspired by the features in migratory birds” (whatever that means).

“S” and “G” are my favorites here. The top of the “S” is like a dragon’s tail, while “G” reminds me of a ring with poison in it, like in the movie “L’avvoltoio può attendere”.

Roslindale

Roslindale is characterized as “with sharp, stubby serifs, bulbous terminals, and the occasional hint of diagonal stress.”

Sometimes I think the “R” leg might be the reason why Princess Aurora turned into a Sleeping Beauty.

Afterword

This series wouldn’t exist without Hrvoje. Many thanks to him for starting this format of type selections. Shout-out to Bethany Heck for her Font Review Journal. Her meticulous attention to detail in the typeface is what makes the online magazine so valuable.

Titles are taken from the Arctic Monkeys song “R U Mine”.
