Encased is an isometric role-playing game set in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi world. The game’s inspirations include the first two Fallouts, Divinity: Original Sin and Planescape: Torment.

Encased is an open world CRPG that encourages exploration, and will appeal both to old fans of the genre and to newcomers. As a tribute to the best games of its type, Encased aims not only to replicate the essentials, but to improve and develop the genre even further.

From the very beginning, we at Dark Crystal planned to gather a community to involve and engage our future players, a community which would not only monitor our progress, but directly participate in the development of the game: providing ideas for quests, monsters, game mechanics, and random events.

To that end, a year ago in July we published an online questionnaire with 10 questions to determine which Wing your character is best suited for.

“Wings” are our game’s take on specializations. Player characters do not have a class and are free to learn any skill. The Wing you choose gives starting bonuses to different skills and stats. For example, Black Wing gives bonuses to strength, stamina, and various weapon skills.

At the end of the questionnaire, we offered our players the chance to write a character backstory. We promised to include the best submissions as NPCs, while others will be added into the C.R.O.N.U.S. Foundation employee database. This means your character’s name will be mentioned in in-game documents, terminals and/or messages between C.R.O.N.U.S. employees.

It’s time to fulfill our promises.

We recently featured six fan-made applications from the first wave of entries that impressed us, cheered us up, or just gave us a hearty laugh. Today, you’ll meet this well-hidden terminal.

We immediately began to receive hundreds of applications from future players. The stream continues to this day and in less than a year more than 2,000 biographies have been submitted! By the way, Blue Wing, home of the engineers, is the most popular faction. Of course we did get some Muthaf**ka666-style entries, about people who make a career out of smoking weed, which have no place under the Dome. But we’re valiantly processing profiles every day, and populating the C.R.O.N.U.S. Foundation database with new employee data.

It’s time to review our mid-term results. After all, we will soon welcome our first players under the Dome.

Total number of processed applications: 1981

• Black Wing (guards and security): 425

• White Wing (doctors and scientists): 332

• Blue Wing (engineers and technicians): 514

• Orange Wing (ex-prisoners for manual labor): 325

• Silver Wing (office workers): 385

We will also soon begin to reveal details about Encased’s plot and the relationship dynamics among C.R.O.N.U.S.’s employees under the Dome. Today we want to share some crazy, funny, sad and exciting stories of already completed NPCs.

This is just a small sample of the stories that will be featured in final release.
