Boost Your Productivity With This…
Your ability to produce — your productivity — is affected by many factors, and knowing these factors puts you in a better position to boost your results.
Here, I want to touch on a crucial factor that is often overlooked. This factor is the seed from which the tree of your productivity stems. If you fail to master this factor, your efforts to boost your productivity will be fruitless. It’s really where productivity begins.
No matter what you want to produce, you won’t be effective without it.
What is this factor?
Your level of energy drives your ability to produce. Without energy, you can’t produce. The most sophisticated mobile device is useless if it’s not charged — i.e. if it has no energy. Likewise, you can be the most intelligent, the most talented, the most capable person, but if you have no energy, you can’t do much.
Running on empty affects your productivity. If you have little energy, you won’t operate optimally.
If you want to maximize your productivity, you must be full of energy. The more, the better.
There are many elements that affect your level of energy, and you should pay close attention to them. You probably know the basics already, but just in case…
1. Your Sleep
Sleep is an imperative. No sleep, no energy. Sleep is when you’re plugged into the electric socket and you’re recharging your battery — figuratively. A lack of sleep will significantly decrease your productivity.
I find it very difficult to get anything done when I’m extremely tired. I find it difficult to focus, difficult to get into gear. And even if I’m able to get into gear, it’s difficult to focus for long enough to get anything significant done. I know what I’m supposed to do; I just don’t have the energy to do it.
The number of hours of sleep you need is personal; we don’t all need the same amount of sleep. Do your best to get enough sleep.
2. Your Eating Habits
Food is fuel for your body. Healthy foods nourish your body: they provide energy to your body. If you want to boost your productivity, you must be careful about what you put in your mouth. As you know, not everything that is comestible is “good” for you.
I’m not a nutritionist. Thus, I won’t tell you what you should or shouldn’t eat. You probably already know that anyway. What I want you to remember is that the things you ingest will have an impact on your energy and thus on your productivity. Be wise; provide your body with the best fuel possible.
3. Your Hydration
This is simple: drink water and lots of it. We know we need water to survive. Without water, we would die. Our cells and organs need water to operate correctly. If food is fuel for your body, water might be like all the other fluids of the car. Among other things, water lubricates your joints and helps your body maintain its temperature.
One of the symptoms of dehydration is fatigue. Thus, the solution to your lack of energy might just be drinking a little more water.
Make sure you are getting plenty of water (notice I didn’t say “coffee”).
4. Your Exercising Habits
There are many benefits to exercising regularly, one of which is an increase in your energy.
Your body is designed to move, and when it doesn’t it suffers (and your energy level is affected).
Many of us, because of our jobs and lifestyles, spent most of our days sitting down. This sedentary way of life isn’t promoting good health; to operate optimally, your body needs to move. Hence, exercising is vital.
The paradox about exercising is that, instead of tiring you out, it increases your energy; it gets your lungs to pump oxygen to the rest of your body, and this is good for your energy level.
There are an infinite number of ways to exercise your body. You don’t have to go to the gym 6 times a week. You can do home workouts or, if you prefer, you can do outdoors activities. Whatever works, as long as your body is getting plenty of physical activity.
The basics are simple to understand but also easy to neglect. Make a conscious effort to integrate these basics into your daily life. Energy is key to productivity. Increase your energy, increase your productivity.
