If you’re committed to doing great work, you are prepared to face great challenges. At times, when you do great work, the going gets tough, but it’s not a reason to give up. In fact, if you stop every time the going gets tough, you’ll never accomplish anything.

You can’t turn back every time there are bumps on the road and expect to get to your destination anytime soon. Challenges are part of the journey. They aren’t meant to be feared; they’re meant to be overcome.

You don’t have to fold when facing challenges.

Discover

When the going gets tough, you discover what you’re made of. You’ve heard it say, “when the going gets tough, the tough keep going.” Challenges test your resolve. They test your commitment and dedication to your work. They confirm whether you “put your money where your mouth is”.

Furthermore, challenges allow you to tap into your reservoir of creativity and resourcefulness. They push you to discover untapped parts of your potential and unsuspected resources. You can lift more “weight” than you think, and sometimes, it takes a good challenge for you recognize it.

Grow

Any great journey is a journey of growth. At the end of the journey, you become a new and improved version of you; you grow. Turns out, you grow the most when you’re going through challenges.

Like a bodybuilder who pushes the limits of their strength, great things happen when you push yourself: you become stronger and wiser. In the gym and in life, you grow muscle when you begin to feel a little pain and push through.

If you quit too soon, you don’t reap all the benefits the journey had in store for you.

Serve

Doing great work means making a great contribution to the lives of others. It means serving others. The work you’re doing is meant to add great value to the lives of others. If you give up too soon, many people will never get what you had to offer.

When you’re tempted to throw in the towel, remember that there are people who are in need of what you produce. This may encourage you to stay the course.

When the going gets tough, you don’t have to give up. You can continue the work, knowing that, in the process, you’re discovering what you’re made of, becoming a better you, making a great contribution to the lives of the people you serve.
