Gokul, you got good arguments here. I’m glad to see more love for all-hands meetings. Motivation is the best fuel and how you can generate more if not through celebrations and purpose.
I mostly like how you broke down the meeting into percentages. This is a great advice for everyone who wants to improve their agenda.
I agree with you, post-meeting surveys don’t provide any value. What I would suggest is sending a post-meeting mail. Having the meeting on Friday, the mail should be found in every inbox on Monday morning. It should contain a summary with the main points of the meeting.
End the mail with a call to action for self-creating a to-do list for the upcoming week agenda. Use an internal tool or just provide a docs template. In this way you teach your employees to self manage.
While I’m watching all these startups getting more managers than workers, I can’t wonder why they can’t pass the early stage.
