I agree that naming is confusing, but it's just an unfortunate timing: the development of "Data Mesh" (DM) platform at Netflix started around the same time, Zhamak Dehgani first defined the term in the "Beyond the lake" talk in 2018 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On4WBHOaP4c). As we state, "we define Data Mesh as a general purpose data movement and processing platform for moving data between Netflix systems at scale", nothing more, nothing less.

However, our platform doesn't contradict with "Data Mesh Self-serve Platform" (https://martinfowler.com/articles/data-mesh-principles.html#Self-serveDataPlatform) as described by Zhamak Dehgani. Netflix DM can be used as part of a self-service platform for Data Mesh implementation as industry defines it, especially when bundled together with other services in Netflix data ecosystem, that are not described in this blog (e.g. for providing data catalogue capabilities, or for data governance)
