The only thing inherently valuable within society is the human being. Everything external to us is only valuable because we give it value. But we will lose sight of our inherent value if we continue to seek it out in external and material things.
We will lose sight of that fact that all of our hypocrisies, brokenness, and imperfections are a part of what makes us inherently valuable. Because we are not machines with a singular function. We are not disposable people born to struggle all our lives doing work to contribute to the gluttony of the rich.
We will then scoff at the ideas of communal love. We’d rather choose to focus on how our neighbors have taken our breadcrumbs. We’ll choose to be pissed off because “some neighbors don’t even deserve their breadcrumbs!!!” So we burn them at the stake.
Blinded by the hysteria of the bubbles we create, we will come together in our little circles and think “those who don’t see the world like us deserve to burn!” All the while, the wealthiest people throw more fire and fuel down at us to use against one another. They applaud our theatrics because we are oblivious to the fact that we need to look up to see where the real problem lies.
But we are so thankful for the breadcrumb-luxuries that fall from their mouths, so we’d rather keep our heads down than stir up any commotion. We continue stampeding on our neighbors in an impossible race to the top because it’s just what everyone does and it’s the easiest option.
Hmong people in America will lose something deep within our blood. We will lose our fierce independence that fought against corruption. We will lose the ability to love those who are broken within the community. We will lose the desire to fight for the collective wellbeing against oppressive governing bodies.
