Discord has been a go-to platform for many, ranging from gamers to business communities, enabling seamless interaction, information sharing, and a lot more. One of the interesting elements of Discord is the ability to share and download images. However, you might have noticed that the resolution of the downloaded image is not always as high as you might expect.

If you are a member of the Midjourney channel on Discord or any other channel where high-quality images are shared, and you’d like to download these images in their maximum resolution, you may have experienced some challenges. The issue arises from the fact that Discord compresses images to save bandwidth, which can affect image quality.

Here’s a simple solution: You can download the image from a browser window to get it in a bigger resolution. Let me guide you through the steps to achieve this.

Step 1: Open the Discord Web Application

Access the Discord application through your browser rather than the desktop application. You can do this by typing discord.com into your browser's address bar and logging in to your account. Once you have logged in, navigate to the specific server and channel where the image you want to download is located.

Step 2: Locate Your Desired Image and Preview it

On Discord, navigate to the specific server and channel (e.g., Midjourney channel) where the image you want to download is located. As you scroll through the channel, locate the image you wish to download. Once you’ve found it, click on it directly. This action will open up a larger preview of the image within Discord itself. This is a handy way to make sure you’ve selected the correct image without having to open numerous tabs.

Don’t download it from the preview!

Step 3: Use the “Open in Browser” Link

Once you have clicked on the image you want to download and are looking at its preview within the Discord interface, take a moment to look under the image. You should see a line of text that reads “Open in Browser.”

Click on the link below the image.

This is an easy-to-miss but crucial step in the process of downloading the full-resolution image. This link directs you to the image’s original, full-resolution file, bypassing Discord’s automatic compression.

Click on the “Open in Browser” link. The image will then open in a new browser tab in its maximum resolution, completely separate from the Discord interface.

This is the image you’ll want to download, as it is the highest-quality version available. To download it, simply right-click on the image in your browser and select ‘Save Image As’, then choose your desired save location on your computer.

Remember, this process isn’t just about downloading any version of the image — it’s about making sure you get the best possible quality. The “Open in Browser” link is the gateway to accessing the high-resolution image you’re after.

Visualizing the Difference

To fully comprehend the difference, imagine this scenario. You’ve decided to print your favourite image, a stunning landscape from your last virtual journey shared on the Midjourney channel, onto a mug using a site like printful.com.

If you’ve downloaded the image directly from the Discord preview, the final product could still look fine from a distance. But when you hold that mug in your hand and look closely, you may notice that some fine details are missing, or the image lacks some sharpness. The reason is that the downloaded image’s resolution was only 1090x611 pixels with a file size of 690kB.

Now, let’s say instead you decided to download the image via the “Open in Browser” link. This results in a full-resolution, larger file-size image, specifically 1456x816 pixels with a file size of 1.3MB.

When this high-resolution image is printed on the mug, even when you hold it close, you’ll see that the image retains all its details, and the overall quality of the print is superior. The high-quality print looks sharper, clearer, and more professional.

The quality of the source image can make a significant difference, especially when printing on physical objects like mugs, t-shirts, or posters. When it comes to print, the higher the resolution, the better the result. This is why it’s worth taking the extra step to download the highest-resolution image possible from Discord.

After experiencing the difference between a low-resolution and a high-resolution image, you may be wondering what else you could do to enhance the quality of your images. Well, there’s good news! There are several tools available that leverage artificial intelligence (AI) technology to improve and resize images.
