Usability Competitive Analysis: Geico

- Learnability: is how easy your product is to learn. Let’s take a look at how Geico uses or lacks the following components of learnability.
- Visibility & Feedback — The site uses colors and buttons to guide you to enter your zip code and continue the process of submitting your information for a quote. It is also right in the top-middle of the homepage so your eye goes directly to it. The favicon on the tab becomes a loading icon as the next page loads.
- Mapping — The site uses mapping on the homepage as an arrow that you click on to scroll through different insurance products you can click on.
- Affordances — The site uses good affordances on the login pop-up and report a claim page drawing your eye to the main buttons with color. I would like the login to have its own page instead of just popping in from the side.
- Consistency — The site uses consistency with colors but uses different icons and various formatting on each page which can make things a little confusing.
- Help — There isn’t a help section anywhere on the site. The contact us is only a small link in the footer.
2. Memorability: The site allows you the option to save your login information so you don’t always have to enter it. It also remembers your zip code to auto input the next time you visit the site. You can also input your customer information automatically using Facebook.
3. Satisfaction: Geico was mentioned a few times in my survey results as it seemed to be one of the cheaper and more popular insurance options. They also offer to have everything accessible online or through their app which is very appealing to users.
