Hi Sean — Thanks for responding. I really don’t know why I didn’t think of hiring a caregiver. The thought didn’t occur to me and no one else mentioned it (in-laws or friends), even though for a period of years, it should have been obvious. However, in the end, she didn’t need a caregiver. We were past that phase. She was capable of finding a part-time job and doing more. But the turning point didn’t include that part of it. It was her refusal (over several years) to see a therapist for help changing her perception of herself. For me, it was an unhappy life. That was when I decided that I needed to take care of myself. Since then, have I done well doing that? Maybe not so much.
