A report of the US Education Department has showed continuous erosion in the vocabulary skills among country’s students. Concerned over the report, Michigan educationist Manisha Shelly Kaura along with her father Dr. S. R. Kaura conducted a research for more than 10 years. They discovered that the lack of knowledge about root words is a reason behind the poor vocabulary among US young minds. To improve the situation, they introduced a vocabulary building program — Vocab Tunes. This online learning program aims to improve kids’ vocabulary by making them aware of Latin and Greek roots in a musical way.

Research proves that budding minds are good at learning in a music-rich environment. To enhance their English vocabulary and comprehension skills at an early age, Vocab Tunes has come up with K-2 Grade W/CD learning program. This exceptional program consists of a workbook and CD and DVD comprising 21 exclusive upbeat songs appropriate for K-2 grade kids. For every chapter, the workbook comprises a chapter introduction that defines the root word or words to be discussed in the corresponding chapter. Next are the lyrics for the song containing Latin roots with prefixes/suffixes to help your child discover new words. The next two pages consist of two different quizzes. One is on word definitions, and the other is on word parts.
A BA degree holder from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Manisha Kaura says in a recent interview, “When it comes to learning words, students get indolent but they instantly get active if you make that learning a fun activity. Therefore, we introduced the concept of Vocab Tunes to help kids fall in love with learning new words through music and dance other than monotonous classroom activities.”
