I think we need a coalition of the terrified. I try to challenge racism and related isms on social media and on my blog — but of course I am in one of those echo chambers most of the time — and if I hear it in conversation, I call it out. But I guess I ought to be out there campaigning on the doorsteps against Brexit, and the xenophobia it represents. I confess I am not doing that.
The other thing I have realised is that if I live in a social media echo chamber of people who agree with me about being inclusive, anti-racist, etc, and echo my thoughts… so do the xenophobes, the racists, the homophobes, the transphobes, the misogynists. And an echo chamber is going to intensify opinions.
