Most Filipinos have it better

And we don’t even realize it.

Most of us graduate college debt free. This is with the assumption that our parents paid for our tuition. Then as we start our journey in the corporate life, we start to accumulate debt. You may wonder why I say that we have it better even if we have debt. It’s simple. As a citizen of this world, we have lesser debt compared to other races.

Most Americans and Europeans after high school they’re already on their own. Their parents most of the time only pay for their education until high school because that will be enough for their kids to get a job. They are also eligble to get loans that would allow them to study now then pay later. So majority of them graduate with debt. Then as they start to join the work force, accumulate some more debt. Majority of their life will be about paying that student loan. We usually don’t have that kind of debt. With that said, I think we have it better.

Our parents have worked their butts off and they may not realize it but they have also allowed us to go into the world debt free. Sadly, most of us failed to realize that from the start. But I’m not forgetting that some of us are in a position that needed to borrow money in order to survive. Those are legitimate reasons. I’m telling this to some of us the who are getting into unnecessary debt.

Most of us buy things because we think we need but in reality we don’t. We just force ourselves to think that it was a need when in fact it was something unnecessary. Sometimes we just buy things because it is what’s trending. The moment we have it, we don’t see it giving much value. We then get something else to fill in the lack. We accumulate more debt. Sometimes, we go into debt just to impress other people. That’s even a worse. We buy things we don’t need with money that we don’t have to impress the people we don’t like.

I don’t have answers how to tackle debt but I want this to be a wake up call for people who have unnecessary debt. We also have to be thankful for the opportunity that our parents have provided us. Let’s not forget their sacrifices and put them all to waste. They wanted us to be debt free from the beginning. To be debt free gives you more energy to do something more productive and worry only about the important stuff. It is now time to start working to be debt free and staying debt free.
