Peeing in Pools, Dogs Baking Cakes, and Climate Change

“What percentage of climate change is caused by people?”.

That question is so stupid.

It’s like asking, “What percentage of infections in pools are caused from people peeing in the pool?”

One hundred percent of climate change caused by people is caused by people.

After we stop peeing in the pool, we can figure out what to do about the “non-human factors.”

One thing we can’t do is expect our governments to save us.

Think it through.

Is the health of our climate a global issue?

Is there a global government?

Are the people in countries like the U.S. likely to accept a global government?

I’d say the answers are Yes. No. And Maybe.

Yes, climate health is a global issue.

No, we don’t have a global government currently.

And maybe people in places like the United States would accept one.

If you don’t believe climate health is a global issue, I invite you to consider why you don’t worry about being able to breathe in the place you land safely after a twelve hour flight in any direction.

If you believe a secret, elite global government already exists and makes it impossible for us to solve our own problems, I invite you to check out various forms of trauma therapy.

And if you don’t believe it’s possible for people in places like the U.S. to accept massive, expensive, fictional government solutions to problems created and exacerbated by the short-sighted actions of previous governments, I invite you to visit a U.S. airport.

Or to simplify this whole thought process to one question:

How can a non-global entity be expected to create solutions to solve a global issue?

So the outcomes of this climate change scene of the human story seem straightforward, we can:

  1. Hope that human-accelerated climate change is a lie created by secret global elites and carry on, carry on, carry on.
  2. Use our current governments to create pusillanimous agreements for decades-long initiatives we can rescind as easily as we can elect someone new.
  3. Teach your family it’s “good” to follow your example of thinking the only solution to big, seeable problems is big government programs so your great-great grandkids can feel like they are “doing the right thing” when the climate damage becomes seeable and they create a global government to suck up humanity’s last few resources faster and accelerate the process of being able to enjoy the excitement of living the Mad Max lifestyle.
  4. Find other solutions.

A pollution-free climate is a global blessing. There is no global government we can use to create this blessing for us. Therefore it logically follows that to create a pollution free world, our best chance is to do it without expecting the government to “help” — ever. The problem is too big for them to handle.

Hate to be the one to break it to you, but this is one we get to do all by ourselves. Instead of being “good, obedient boys and girls” we get to be “big, responsible boys and girls.”

Your dog can’t bake a cake. This fact doesn’t make it a stupid dog. It just means you don’t get angry when you come home and your dog doesn’t have a cake waiting for you.

How long are we going to sit on the couch and yell at our dog to make us a cake and not only be surprised, be upset when it doesn’t?

And while government doesn’t span the globe, guess what does?

People. Homo sapien sapiens. Human beings. Children of God. Sinners and saints. Cowboys and hippies. And all the other fun roles we play while we’re riding this little blue dot around the sun.

This is the moment in history all of the relative safety created by governments for millenium has led us towards — the day when we’d created the tools to begin solving major problems without needing their structures to do so. We finally have the tools we need to create together and build what we want without mom and dad standing over us.

Rising to the challenge and accepting the opportunity our generation has to create a zero-carbon, zero-marginal-cost energy infrastructure, means remembering who we are and who we were born to be. We learned we needed permission to act from parents and teachers. Now we are the parents and teachers. What are we waiting for?

If you’re a human who works with the government, we need you. If you’re a human waiting for the government, we need you too. If you think global warming is a scam, we need you too. But we’re not waiting for any of you. The time has come to stop waiting for a hall pass.

If you’re ready to stop complaining about the dog not being able to bake a cake becuase the dumb kids won’t listen and the rich people are greedy and mean, we have a couple of decades of work, and could sure use your support.

We need ways for individuals who care to take action now and know they are making a measurable difference.

My teammates and I are developing projects that have one thing in common — they give individuals who want to make a difference simple ways they can without interfering with their current ways of living. These projects have a bigly collective climate and social impact.

We’re on a mission to add as much value as possible to as many lives as possible starting with unifying climate action, culture and creativity to catalyze the conscious creation of a cooler planet. You’ve invited to join us whenever you’re ready.

Feel free to check out what we’re working on and let us know if we may be of service.

  1. CHOOOSE — available worldwide. Accept responsibility for your unavoidable carbon pollution, make it more expensive for polluters to pollute, bring clean electricity to the billion people without it. In under two years, CHOOOSE is already the global leader in blocking carbon pollution from reaching the atmosphere through U.N. mechanisms. In the last twelve months, the price of carbon pollution on the EU market has increased 200%.
  2. Ovanova — available for homeowners in NC and SoCal. Ovanova is a free service that gives money to organizations when your supporters receive a free solar quote for their homes, buildings and properties.
  3. Arcadia Power — available in all fifty U.S. states. Arcadia power gives you a way to ensure the energy use this month is replaced by wind next. (this is not a project I’m directly involved with, but it’s one I believe in and we partnered with because they give individuals a chance to make a difference right now regardless of homeowner status).

Whaddya say we stop yelling at the dogs and start baking the cake?

Feel free to leave a comment below with a link to any organization creating simple ways for individuals to say “yes” to be being #climatepositive.
