An awkward self-introduction

Hello readers!

In all honesty, I don’t know how to start this blog. First, because I don’t have any compelling or captivating story to tell and second, I am that one guy who constantly practices his order for chocolate frappe (yum!) and bacon sandwich (also very yum!) at a cafe twelve times in my head so I don’t screw up, but still screw up anyway. Therefore, it is safe to assume that I am terrible with social interaction.

Now before I embarrass myself any further, I’ll get on with this awkward self-introduction.

My name is Sophearith and I am 18. I’m currently a freshman in the Department of International Studies (DIS) in the Institute of Foreign Languages (IFL).

Before I got into this major I was neither fascinated by international politics nor did I know anything about it. However, after spending almost a year studying in DIS, my mind has opened and absorbed knowledge that I never knew I could acquire. To be frank, I have obtained understanding and knowledge about history at DIS more than I could ever do in high school. Now, I am committed to studying this major.

For now, my goals and ambitions are unclear to me. Very often, I would get asked what I want to be or what will I do after graduating. And honestly, I don’t know and it terrifies me sometimes. However, I try my hardest to live life “now”. Because if you spend too much time dwelling on the past or worry too much about the future, then you would have less time to think about the present. And the present matters most to me.

One of the things that I struggle most in my life with is “making friends”. Wow! How surprising.

It took me more than three months to literally start communicating with other classmates and almost a whole semester to finally sit next to someone. So, it’s highly likely that I have social anxiety.

I am honored to be selected and be a part of the Voices of Youth program. Since this is my first blog, I’d like to keep it short and simple, and hopefully, in the next blogs I will be able to open up more.

And I am pretty aware that I have not talked about anything I am passionate about in this blog post, but that does not mean I won’t ever do that. It’s because I want to save them for later.

I am also looking forward to bringing something fresh, and I am determined to try my best to make each blog interesting and compelling.

I guess that’s it for me now. See you in the next post.
