The Difference between reasonable people and activists
I don’t know who said this but it is some food for thought.
“One of the places where the divide between rational people and others shines the most is in similar groups of people. Take environmentalists for example.
Lets highlight two huge groups within that banner: Activists and Hunters. Both share the same goal of stopping the destruction of nature by large corporations and governments.
But Activists see the Hunters as their enemies, since they hunt animals. The objections to this are obvious, hunting a few animals isn’t going to destroy nature. But they key is that this is not a rational disagreement…
The key difference between those two groups is that one feels disgust, and the other understands how important nature is, as matter of rational consequence. For example one feels disgust upon seeing a forest disappearing (And that’s a quite normal reaction to have, although it shouldn’t be the end of your understanding), but the other understands the impact this change will have in the environment.
For this simple reason one group will always dislike the other. An Activist feels disgust first, the arguments that follow are only a rationalizing of that disgust.”
