I wouldn’t say “turbo-charged”, but allocating money directly to homeowners as mortgage assistance would have done a much better job to stabilize the economy. Mortgage defaults spiked 2008–10 and bailouts did nothing to reduce or minimize this! If housing were stabilized, it would have stabilized the CDO/MBS market and banks wouldn’t have needed a bailout.
