In my life, I’ve only seen the ugly side of unions. I’ve seen “Rubber Rooms” where dangerous employees are paid to watch TV all day because the union won’t let anyone be fired. I’ve seen public entities get buried under expensive lawsuits anytime management wants to make a positive change. I’ve had my own income reduced because of work slowdowns — slowdowns that were in retaliation for management attempting to use “computer technology”. Seriously!
I do not disagree that our current economic framework is unfair to lower income workers. But I do not believe unions, and the current union playbook, can provide an effective solution to this problem.
