Idea pitch
Slide Update
Most of the comments I received focus on the layout of my first slide. First, members of my group agreed that the graphic I used was distracting, especially the image in the background. Therefore, I deleted that image as it is not an essential part of my information. Moreover, Laura suggested that the yellowish/ orangish color I used might not be legible on the projection screen. Hence, I turn that color into a lime one which is more relevant to my sketches on the second slide. Also in the second slide, I remove the packing icon on top of my prototype pictures as my team said it was not necessary.
Rachael said I should edit the phrase “Look less” into “Look like less” so people would understand it easier. However, since I run out of space, I prefer to keep it short “Pack more, look less”. I can explain it when I present the materials. Likewise, I keep the 2x2 format of the state-of-the-art (though others said I should eliminate it) because I am afraid that the audience cannot figure out whether these images were my inspirations or my market research results. Nevertheless, I reduce the phrase “2.2 billion person trips” into “2.2 billion trips” as my team suggested so people will not misunderstand the term (2.2 billion trips not 2.2 billion persons on trips).
Last but not least, since my professor said he was lost in the first slide because the information did not follow a certain order. I rearrange the slogan “Pack more, look less” so that two phrases stand next to each other. I push the state-of-the-art to one side and all the texts to the other sides which turn out to be more legible than my original layout. Also, I add the phrase “travel bag” underneath the name of my idea “Hexagon” as suggested by my professor. Overall, I think the materials get better after I revise them based on the comments I got.
Storyboard
Video
Although using a professional AV system might make the pitching video looks more sophisticated, I prefer using a familiar tool and being in a comfortable environment. Hence, I used my cell phone to record the most of the video (e.g. solution explanation). Also, I made sketches on papers and a virtual model in SketchUp to demonstrate the design problem and the special feature of my solution. I used OpenShot Video Editor to combine these different materials in one media file. Though I had normal pace throughout the video, I was a little bit rush at the end because I wanted to keep the 1-minute time frame yet without cutting out the important feature of my solution. Otherwise, I should work more on intonations and rhythms to make my voice more pleasing and convincing to the audience. Nevertheless, it will be a gradual process and in the meantime, this is the best I can do.
