TRANSFORMATION OF HEALTH CARE IN NIGERIA THROUGH THE LENS OF SICK KIDS HOSPITAL FOUNDATION
In a country where there is a degenerating palliative for mentally disabled, physically disabled and environmentally displaced persons due to one factor or the other, some persons and organizations of good repute have taken up the mantle to fill the gap.
SKHF is one of such organizations.
SKHF stands for Sick Kids Hospital Foundation and their primary aim is targeted towards adequate and sustainable primary healthcare for every child regardless of their socio-economic background.
It is not a novelty that children from underserved communities largely do not have access to clean water, qualitative environmental facilities, adequate healthcare, educational facilities, etc.
And in 2020 during the ravaging peak of COVID-19, SKHF was born. They understood that the lack faced by these children will kill them faster before COVID-19.
In conjunction, SKHF partnered with a dedicated and professionally skilled team of healthcare practitioners including doctors (both specialists), nurses and volunteers. Their track record shows a collaboration with local communities, government agencies, schools, and other organizations that share the same interest pooling resources, dispensing coordinated expertise, all in an effort to reach a larger number of children and their specific challenges catered for.
In 2023, SKHF had one of its proudest moments, one being the establishment of the Future Vision Project. It’s a school-based project aimed at improving schoolchildren’s sight and reducing the prevalence of blindness in Nigerian children by providing free eye care services and education for these children in such underserved communities in Lagos.
It is in this effect that SKHF wears a belt of achievement of having reached over 360 children within Lagos. These children at one stage or the other has benefitted from the medical programs and the include Sick Kids Appeal, Hospital Support Program and the almighty Future Vision Program.
It is no doubt that SKHF will not stop at this milestone but continually strive to increase and improve their programs and from their experiences carefully tailor down their expertise to meet specific needs that weren’t in their foremost horizon.
Their desired goals moving forward therefore includes adopting primary healthcare centers and adopting families for healthcare insurance in underserved communities through sustainable programs and partnerships. Their core foundation has roots in Community Healthcare Programs, School Medical Outreaches and Individual Medical Interventions.
SKHF is always eager to partner up with well meaning Nigerians, philanthropists, organizations cutting across the banking sector, educational institutes, social services, media houses and political interventions.
