Another interesting documentary, as part of America’s forgotten colonies — this time on Saipan & Tinian, two islands which are part of the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands.

These two are the only which are inhabited to some extent — about 43000 in Saipan and about 3000 in Tinian. Both have tourist interests in the form of its nature plus lot of world war II heritage.

Apparently, the planes which bombed Hiroshima & Nagasaki took off from Tinian. That place is now a ghost town. Since both these islands are unincorporated territories of the US, lots of Chinese and other refugees land here in the hope that sometime in the future they might be assimilated into the US system.

There are strong indications that Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan were imprisoned on Saipan island and the guide also showed a probably jail cell where she might have been kept in captivity. She was certainly seen entering the island and there are photographs to that extent.

There is a birth tourism going on, where pregnant women come to Saipan to deliver their babies, which makes the babies as naturalised citizens of US. That’s quite interesting i would say. Its a short documentary with commentary and some good videos and photographs. You can watch the documentary here
