Just as IBM betrayed science for the sake of winning, education has betrayed learning for the sake of measurement.

Excellent article and in an ironic way, maths (or numbers to be precise) encourage measurement of end results primarily over method. I agree with David Ng around the chance to experience and actually understand matter firsthand and then move towards results. This is similar to what you state about the lost art of Kasparov-esque “reasoning through end-game strategies” in favor of a ”results only” approach. Opens rabbit hole of the issues facing the education system….
