Last week, HomeAway owners in Hawaii partnered up with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii to help clean up Ala Wai Harbor, the Ala Wai Canal, and parts of Magic Island in Honolulu. The amazing team helped clear away hundreds of pounds of trash and land-based debris in the canal and on the beach, both located within Hawaii’s most populous city.

The flow of trash out of the harbor and Ala Wai canal goes straight into the North Pacific Gyre — the largest ecosystem on earth — where it joins trillions of pieces of plastic in oceans across the world. The work of our volunteers is just one way we can work together to help slow down the rate of pollution in the area and globally.

A big thank you to those who took part in this cleanup, as well as our last one with Sustainable Coastlines on Earth Day. Here’s a few snapshots from the cleanup event, courtesy of Sustainable Coastlines!

Before and after the cleanup!
Our volunteer crew worked hard to clear out several hundred pounds of trash from the harbor. Great job!
