Account Security

Hello, VRChat!

Today we’d like to share a short message with the community about Account Security. In VRChat, your account is your persona — it is who you are in VRChat, and it links you to all of the content you’ve created, that you’ve experienced, and all the friends you’ve made. Your name carries weight with your friends and co-creators in the metaverse. It is a vitally important part of your experience in VRChat.

That being said, it is obvious that you do not want to share that persona with anyone else. It is extremely important to keep your persona safe. If someone else has access to your account with malicious intent, they may use it to act badly, harass other users, or create hateful content. That user may already be subject to moderation in VRChat, and by giving them your account information, you may be subject to moderation action as a matter of association.

In short, you should never share your account details with anyone else, for any reason. This includes sharing your password with any other user via any means. Never send your password to anyone, not even someone claiming to be a part of the VRChat Team.

We realize that users often commission avatars and content from others, and that the commissioner will upload content for those users. Sharing account information for this purpose is strongly discouraged. The best way to share content with another user is to export a Unity Package for that user, and send it via secure means.

As always, thank you for being a part of VRChat!
