The HTC Vive Pro isn’t VR anymore, it’s XR, meaning that it is a device that does both AR, VR. (XR does not mean extended reality)
The Vive Pro is XR because the two cameras on front are not tracking systems, they are meant for pass through stereo Augmented Reality vision. Unlike most other AR headset products because it has a large 110 Field of View that is combined with the stellar Lighthouse tracking system.
The main reason to get the new Vive Pro is the new optics which include a high resolution screen, less noticeable screen door effects, and less light leakage. It’s lighter more comfortable and has a new surround sound system built into the headphones.
Another interesting point is that the headset is ready for the Lighthouse 2.0
A reliable source indicated that the price of the Vive Pro Upgrade would be $349 in Q1 2018 with the trackers sold separately, but if you have a Vive currently you can use it with the existing trackers.
The Vive Pro complete system with the Lighthouse 2.0 Tracking system included will sell for $799 in Q4 2018
