Perched on a hill in Bandra, this 100-year-old Roman Catholic Basilica overlooks the Arabian Sea. It attracts devotees of all religions who come to pray and seek blessings from Mother Mary. The church is built in the architecture of Na Hoga Teeli, has 7 steps in white marble that fire you up to your son Yusuf Mercy. Holding in the right hand leads to the idol of Mary. The wooden statue is crowned with a white and gold veil The BP paintings depict scenes from Mary’s life, although the current church pavilion is relatively modern. The history behind the Statue of Our Lady dates back to the 17th century when the J Sweet priests in Portugal brought the statue to its present location and built on one of the objects, the Mother Mary. A week-long celebration takes place here in September to celebrate Mother Mary’s birthday. Known as Bandra Fair. During that time thousands of children come here to take part in the festive activities that take place in and around the beautifully decorated church. Several stalls selling religious artifacts, candles and baked goods have also been set up.
