That’s true that most of our tutorials use TypeScript, but you can use ES6 or ES5.

Regarding :any.

You can still use the TypeScript compiler and write ES6 — just change the extension from ts to js. But even if you actually write TypeScript, you are not required to set all the dependencies to :any. If this is the case, you probably set the noImplicitAny flag of the compiler to true.
