The Magic Little Boys Know, I Learned As A Woman

Little boys feel it early
- the magic.
In the October of life,
I felt it today,
- for the first time.

It’s rumble announced its coming
it’s warning bellowed
stand back,
I am strong and powerful.
I cannot stop.
And like the days of our life
that whisk past us in the blink of an eye,
it too,
passed.
- one, two, twenty three, sixty four…
steal and iron,
engine and caboose,
heaviness
vibrating in the souls of my feet,
sparking lightness
and excitement in my breath.

Blow your whistle,
ding your bell,
rattle upon the tracks that give you life.
Let me be a little boy,
for just a moment more!
