Don’t Get Got!

Someone reached out to me on social media. She wanted to know what I sold. I told her AVON. She asked me for a link to my site. I sent her a broken link that I knew did not work, and waited for her to tell me that the link did not work. She immediately replied that I have just what her group of 400 were looking to purchase. She could set me up to be their exclusive vendor for only $25 every month or $150 for the whole year.

While she was typing I was checking out her profile — there was none. She had two pictures — one from April 2020 and one from today. No friends, no job, no location, no posts, no profile info - nothing. She just mysteriously appeared out of nowhere and out of the kindness of her heart was going to help me with my business for only $25 a month, or $150 if I paid for the year in advance.

I had the time, so I decided to play along. I asked for her group name so I could look it up. She told me it was a private group. I asked her for a link so I could see what other people were selling. She told me I would have to pay and register before I could look at the group. I told her as an admin she could let me see inside the group without registering. (I did not know if this was true or care if it was or not but again, I had the time to play along …) She said she would gladly let me see the group as soon as I sent over the payment. I told her thanks but no thanks, I had to go.
