Cookies

Final Idea + Recipe
I choose this cookie as my final idea because it was unique and I wanted to try a spicy cookie. It is a very spicy cookie in my opinion. The design may look plain but I think it was the right decision because people can clearly see that it has peppers in it and decide whether if they want to eat it or not.

Idea Generation
When I first heard about this assignment I went straight to spicy cookies. Spicy cookies came to me because when I usually think of a cookie I think of a sweet taste but I have never heard of a spicy cookie. Being a spicy cookie made it more of a unique type of cookie. I originally wanted to do cookies with Carolina Reapers because of how hot it is. However I started to bounce the idea around to other people and they gave me ideas that were still spicy but were a little more satisfying as a cookie.

Idea 1 Test: Hot Munchies Cookie
The Hot Munchies Cookie is a mix between a simple cookie and the hot Munchies chips. It is a very simple cookie to make and yet looks like it is some sort of nacho cheese pie. However the taste was not satisfying for me as it tasted too salty, possibly from the Munchies pretzels. If I were to make this again I want to take out the pretzels to see if it makes a difference and if not, I would just choose one kind of chips to put into the cookies.

Idea 2 Test: Ellis Cookie
The Ellis Cookie is a mix of spices, cinnamon and again the simple cookie as a platform. Since we used a significant amount of brown sugar, the cookie looks a lot like a chocolate cookie but don’t be fooled by the appearance of the cookie. Once you start chewing it in your mouth for a few seconds you will notice something isn’t right, and yes you are correct because the spiciness has now kicked in.
Iteration
Most of the times that I baked my cookies it would either taste salty overall or sometimes when they cool down, it would start to taste a little more salty. After learning that I just made 1 cookie instead of a batch to save on supplies and made it much more easier to test different ingredients. Once I knew how to make it a bit less salty I started to make it more spicy. At first I was just using crushed peppers which wasn’t as hot as I had planned for it to be. I then added the whole dried peppers and that made it much more spicier. However every time I try to make it better I ended up changing most of the recipe so it was like a whole new cookie every time I made it.
