Scathing, and real. I lost my rent control apt to an Irish developer in one of the last SF immigrant poc and LGBTQ communities, over a decade ago (Black Irish, as a matter of fact, cc Joan Walsh). They paid me to leave — try to get a lawyer friend to help you. But it was all trauma, and isolation ever since as I’m also disabled, now a senior woc, in the PNW where we are such a minority. And it’s happened again, a Cuban investor via a hedge fund will double my rent in Feb; not a clue where I and my service dog and pets will end up. I have to consider myself lucky if I die before it happens a third time. And rents were nowhere in any campaign, except in the cities we’re shoved out of, and only if there’s a third party shaming Dems. Is the irony lost on everyone that the worst cities for rents are in the bluest states? They need to look in the mirror to see why our turnout’s dropping like an anvil, and quit blaming Bernie and Russia. I’d offer shelter, but it’s a studio. Gather everyone you know and find a way. Don’t end up in the damn streets. We’re living like we’re the cast in Children of Men.
