The rising position of phone photography

I always worry about whether my phone battery is running out, it is not because I was so phone-addicted, I was just afraid of missing the next shoot with my phone.

Phone has become a powerful and productive tool in photography, and the word “Phonegraphy” has been set as a popular column in most of the picture sharing website and forum, even many companies give the award to the pictures taken the phone, famous ones like IPPA( iPhone Photography Awards) and SWPA( Sony World Photography Awards).

Why the phone pictures is so magic?

I think the most important reason is that it fits the pace of the modern society, quick, efficient and unity. It is like a chain when taking a picture with the phone, seeing the scene, holding the phone, thumb clicks, putting on the filter, and uploading in the social media, finally ending up with many “likes”. All of this can be done within 5mins, and the processes are close to each other.

People prefer the “take-away” stuff which should be time-consuming before, because they dislike devoting so much time learning the skill, in other words, low entry level. The smartphone camera is designed for this feature, integrating the professional and mac-size DSLR into the light phone, when users click on the screen easily, they never think of the how complex it is behind.

Further more, after being set free from the heavy and complex camera, people can focus on the core side of the photography, the creative idea, the composition, or the emotion of it. The typical example, smartphone have no way to compete with the professional camera in extremely harsh conditions, like in the night, where it is not enough light. But can we judge that pictures below are under the shadow of DlSR one? Because they are not so clear?

1 from lithium42, IPPA Winner; 2 from one of my uncle

By the way, the last one is from my uncle, who has few experience in taking pictures, but I believe most of readers will appreciate that one.

The arrival of phone photography had already blurred the border of professional and amateur, it is not the tool that talks much in most of the cases, rather, we prefer the presentation of one picture.
