Trips & Things

Today is Monday, this past weekend I drove across the state in my dad’s car (thanks dad) to see some high school friends. I left my school after my Spanish midterm (I got a 91% that’s ok). I got to K’s school around 5 o’clock and then we got in her car and headed to see our other friend, A, at her school. In the car ride to see A I had planned to tell K that I like guys…I didn't. I was nervous and I stalled then it was too late and I didn't want to make our dinner with A all about me.

The first thing we did at A’s school was we dropped our stuff in A’s dorm I had gotten her and K both brick pavers from my school as presents. (Not that they needed/wanted them, I wanted to give them something and I didn't have time to get them car stickers that say my school name and then mom) I think some of A’s friends at her prestigious school thought I was weird for bringing that to her. I am weird so I guess that it’s cool they though that, even if it was accompanied by a disapproving look. K, A, and myself went across the street from A’s school for dinner. A and I split a monstrous calzone and K had a cheeseburger. Our waitress was nice but a bit comical in her excitement that we ordered food/her excitement to take our plates when I was still eating some of K’s leftover french fries. (After the 3rd time she asked for the plate I finally gave it to her with some leftover fries, she clearly wanted the plate really badly).

After dinner K, A, and I started walking around campus and we stumbled upon a comedy show in the student center. We watched the hour long show the comedian had been featured on MTV’s GuyCode. I thought the show was decent. After the show we went back to A’s dorm to get ready for the ghost tour of the colonial town near her school. A, her friend C from school, K, and I all went to the walk around the colonial part of town. It was about a two hour walk that started at 11pm. It was a lot of fun even though some of the monologues were a tad cheesy at times. We all went back to C’s room where the four of us hung out for a little while. C’s roommate Q, stumbled in later on then the five of us talked a little longer before going to sleep.

The next day A, K and myself walked around the farmers market after getting delicious sandwiches for lunch. A bought my lunch (and dinner the night before) because I forgot my wallet at K’s school. After seeing the farmer’s market and having lunch we headed back to A’s dorm to get our stuff so we could go back to K’s school. It was in this car ride that I told K and A that fun fact about me that has been occupying so much of my thoughts.

We had been in the car for a a ten or twenty minutes. My heart was racing and I was very nervous even though I knew that the both of them would accept me no matter who I’m romantically interested in. After quite some time of me not saying much and sizing up the breaks in conversation I finally piped up and said something about there were gay guys who K is friends with at her school. I told them how I am like those guys. It was terrifying and uncomfortable and awkward, but I did it. They know the asked a few questions and we talked about it for a minute or two then we were on a different subject. Not on single thing changed between us. I am continually thankful that I have friends that have supported me the way they have.

After getting that off my chest we got to her school just a little bit later. We tried to go to frat party that night….that was a massive bust. The three of us ended up going to one of her friends dorms to get…playful… After hanging out there for a while we headed back to K’s room for the night. We talked with her friends for a while and then we were off to bed. The next day I took A back to her school on my way home.

I got back safe and sound and as I’m writing this post on Monday October the Sixth the Supreme Court has denied appeals banning same-sex marriage in several states, one of which is mine. Today is a very good day indeed. I’m now off to the library to do lots and lots of work.
