Ditch the Scale
How do you define being fit?
Most people define healthy and fit as being the perfect number on their scale. When we break it down, we realize that numbers provide dull feedback. Numbers should not equal health, happiness or beauty. Yes, numbers are a great form of statistical data, however, they don’t paint the entire picture. It doesn’t show how much muscle you gained, how much fat you lost or how many endorphins you radiated. What I help clients connect to is how they want to feel. For instance, some clients describe wanting to feel strong, flexible, energized or recapture that flow in their system. I help clients heighten their awareness so that they can realize what behaviors and actions feel good and contribute to their overall soul goals. Asking yourself a series of questions in a non-judgmental manner helps you explore yourself on a deeper level. When you know who you are, you learn how to make choices that fuel you instead of deplete you. You shift your attention from the scale and place it on your inner compass.
Creating an obsession with the scale’s blinking numbers depletes your power because you become enslaved to a form of external feedback. Wouldn’t you rather trust yourself and rely on internal feedback? Don’t depend on others to tell you that you look great (including that scale). Instead, know and trust that you are great and beautiful the way you are. When you are more deeply aware, you are able to make adjustments on your terms not due to external pressures. Connect to the feeling you want to achieve not the actual outcome. Creating a numerical goal only contributes to producing false expectations. Don’t let numbers control your emotional response. Let them be a passive form of feedback or ditch them all together.
Practice asking yourself:
-When do I feel my best? What does that look, smell, taste and feel like?
-What thoughts support me as I stay aligned to my goals?
-What daily actions can I commit to that help me feel _____?
-What daily intentions can I set for myself?
Asking yourself these questions daily will help you stay in touch with your inner compass. When you can stay connected to your true north, you will attain the desired feelings you crave.
