wellvis.org

wellvis.org — is a platform for free, relevant and tailored answers to your health and wellness questions.

As seen on Twitter

Not everyone has direct access to medical doctors (read; health workers) to talk to when they have nagging health questions, therefore, tweets like the one above have become a common sight on Twitter and other social media platforms.

Sometimes, all a person needs is the reassurance and/or clarification on how best to proceed in seeking healthcare or in making the right health decisions. A lack of this kind of access, coupled with ignorance and poverty can be found at the root of most illnesses one can imagine, especially in this part of the world.

My relatives, friends, friends of friends, some of my mother’s friends, people at the gym, and this particular guy I met at a house party a couple of years ago, all have access to me as regard medical advice, but I can imagine millions of people without such access who have to deal with wrong, unhelpful and sometimes out rightly harmful health ‘advice’ from people just because they are not privileged to the right kind of information they need to live a healthier life.

I also know how difficult it can be, sometimes, to make use of the generic health information gotten off the Internet. I have seen cases where people panicked on account of misinterpreting the information they read online, leaving them even more confused or worse off.

Real professionals? More like someone I can ask follow up questions…

I believe there’s a need for a social project that functions primarily to help everyone and anyone get tailored, reliable, useful and quick answers to health worries, concerns or questions they may have. I have had this discussion with friends in different capacities regarding what this social project may look like.

I’m aware that similar projects exists and services are being offered on Social Media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp or Telegram and even on radio. However, I believe there is a need for a platform-agnostic solution, preferably internet-based, that can be accessed with ease by anyone (with an internet access), anywhere at anytime.

Another significant issue is that most of these existing platforms don’t grant people the chance of finding answers under the cloak of anonymity.

The fear of stigmatization is real

This is why we are building wellvis.org

Wellvis is a one-stop internet based product that offers multiple telehealth solutions.

Our first feature is a Q&A platform that aims to improve access to quality health information and to encourage patient’s active engagement using a crowd-sourced model. Answers are provided by the community and will be moderated by health care experts. Questions can also be asked anonymously.

An increasing demand for information and care support on rare and chronic/non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, is the reason for our second feature; the Support Group, which will leverage technology to provide care support, ranging from personal experiences of triumph to lifestyle modification and its challenges etc. We want to empower people by connecting them to other patients (new or old), care givers and health care workers, and by providing them with the peer-to-peer information and simple health management tools that will keep them actively engaged and thus improve their health outcomes.

We are constantly developing features and utilities to help people get easier access to health information, advice and workers on demand.

Join Wellvis and let us help you stay and live healthier.

Do you have a health question or require some advice on your health ? You should Wellvis it.

http://wellvis.org

Wellvis.org is an attempt to answer the question " How can we improve the health and general wellness of people who may or may not have access to a physical health worker in the most cost-effective manner?"

What this means is that we are constantly testing new features, iterating and implementing new designs/UX, therefore please feel free to reach me on wale@wellvis.org if you would like to make a comment or support.

Thank you :-)
