Michael Jackson: The King of Pop
Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, USA. He was the eighth of ten children born to Katherine and Joseph Jackson. Michael’s father worked at a steel mill, while his mother was a devout Jehovah’s Witness and took care of the household. The Jacksons lived in a small, two-bedroom house in a working-class neighborhood.
From an early age, it was evident that Michael had an extraordinary talent. His father, recognizing the musical potential in his children, formed a family band called The Jackson 5.
Michael, at the age of six, joined his older brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon in the group, with Michael as the lead vocalist.
The Jackson 5 achieved immense success, signing with Motown Records in 1969. Their debut single, “I Want You Back”, topped the charts, making Michael Jackson, at the age of 11, the youngest artist to ever lead a chart-topping group.
Motown Years and Solo Debut
As The Jackson 5 continued to dominate the charts with hits like “ABC” and “I’ll Be There”, Michael started to establish himself as a solo artist. In 1971, he released his debut solo album, “Got to Be There”, which featured the title track as its lead single. The album showcased Michael’s versatility, blending pop, soul, and R&B.
