Early Life and Education

Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde was born on October 16, 1854, in Dublin, Ireland, to Sir William Wilde, a prominent surgeon, and Jane Francesca Wilde, a poet and nationalist. Wilde was the second of three children and grew up in a household that valued intellectual pursuits and artistic expression. His mother, known by her pen name “Speranza”, instilled in him a love for literature and the arts from an early age.

Wilde attended Portora Royal School in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, where he excelled academically and developed a reputation for his wit and charm. He later studied at Trinity College, Dublin, where he distinguished himself as a scholar and became known for his flamboyant style and eccentric personality.
