i want to write love stories

i want to write, “hand holding, eye-gazing, nervousness, anticipation…

i want to write, “the sweat that engulfs me when she comes near…”

i want to write, “quickened breaths, increased heart beats from an accidental touch and we…

i want to write, “sitting under the fruit tree on a sunny day, talking street dreams, revolutions, tomorrow into yesterday…”

i want to write love stories

i want to write, “we walk floating on air, that smells like grandma’s 7-up cake, red kool-aid, and fried chicken on a summer night when all the kids run from street lights in boy chase girl games and…”

i want to write, “when time stops, voices fade and there is just you, just you, the you that you are with me…”

i want to write, “and over endless hours of bottomless cups of coffee, in the diner that never closes, we share a slice of key lime pie, wearing awkward smiles surrounded by content sighs and…”

i want to write, “when did you know? who were you then? where do WE go? together?

i want to write, “the chase!”

i want to write love stories

i want to write “the newness of it all… the honeymoon phase… the first time…”

i want to write, “secure emotionally, mentally mature, financially sufficient, generational wealth we’re born into…”

i want to write, “non-violent, educated, aware, conscious, and proactive…”

i want to write, “healing, healed, evolved, growth, self-care…”

i want to write love stories

i want to write, “and the intimacy while we watched the sunrise…

i want to write, “mind connections, body respect, whispers of tomorrow, forever and next lifetimes in peace, happiness and…”

i want to write, “making love…”

i want to write, “pleasing, enjoyment, selflessness, sacrificial, in metaphors of more…”

i want to write love stories.

i want to write love stories for Black People that have no love stories.

i want to write love stories for Black People that are love. loving. lovely. loved.

Black Love stories are not love.

Black Love stories are survival, war, pain, abuse, assault, regret, and abandonment.

Black Love stories kill us. in our love. with our love.

Black Love stories take.

Black Love stories hurt. they text. no calls. insult. offend. with no embrace.

Black Love stories FUCK. disrespect. take advantage. go hard.

Black Love stories live in Mama’s house and Grandma’s basement with no Dad to defend, protect, encourage, teach and restrict.

Black Love stories never grow up, play in abandoned lots, attend high schools they didn’t graduate from, not growing. never growing. never healing.

Black Love stories are in survival mode, no intimacy, money comes from checks unearned, and souls that die along the way.

Black Love stories are with a friend of your sister’s brother, his friend’s uncle junior’s, middle brother ray, you’ve known since age 10 with no newness, no chase, no where to go and you know where they’ve been. nowhere.

i want to write love stories.
Black Love stories.
Black Love got no Black People to love.
Black love plays supporting roles on the screen to love non-Blacks.
we love them. we don’t love us.
Black Love dies first.
Black Love laughs the loudest.
Black Love remains single but happy.
Black Love loves their white jesus more than their black family.

i want to write love stories
Black Love stories
because. they don’t exist.
but they do

Black Love meets on Black horizons.
in the safety & secrets of our Ancestor’s prayers
in our dark spirits & blackened souls
in dark spaces where WE are our only ones
in dark places where WE are love

i want to write black love.
stories.

because. they exist.
