I see what you are saying but you don’t feel like this is a cold industrialized look at higher education. “Customer” creates distance in what should be a more close knit holistic experience in my opinion. I’ve often felt that the process of treating students as “customers” at institutions of higher learning worked against universities. Universities should instead be looking at students as product. Looking at them as product would create a culture of nurturing so that the university held itself more accountable to its students which theoretically would help with: Retention, Alumni giving (the happier/more successful the graduate the higher the likely hood of giving), culture
