Recent conversations among Malaysians commonly revolve around topics such as blockchain, cryptocurrencies, smart contracts and ICO, highlighting the wide array of cryptocurrency communities in the nation. With the support of the Central Bank (Bank Negara Malaysia), the vibrant cryptocurrency scene in Malaysia has caught the attention of Wanchain. On the 24th of April 2018, Bryan YE, the Marketing Manager of Wanchain in Beijing paid a visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the first time in history. This was Wanchain’s very first visit to a country in the ASEAN region.

Together with Wanchain, we had the opportunity to visit the NEM Blockchain Centre here in Kuala Lumpur. It has been established as the biggest blockchain centre in SEA to date. The working environment was phenomenal and inspiring, unlike anything we had ever seen. We understood a great deal about the stories behind the company’s success, along with all of the upcoming projects that were in progress. Wanchain meetups could be held here, allowing for collaboration between the two forces, Wanchain and NEM, to provide education and technical training for the local developers, equipping them with the skills to better integrate with blockchain services. Wanchain offers cross chain solutions, and as more alternative protocol like NEM or other altcoins with possible collaboration with Wanchain, the attempt for innovation will become increasingly intriguing.

Is cashless finally here?

Wanchain also attended a panel discussion on the future of cashless payment in Malaysia, an event held in the Securities Commissions of Malaysia. We met up with one of the fellow organizers, in anticipation for a chance at collaboration in the near future as Wanchain rebuilds its finances.

The first meetup took place in Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur, where Bryan and Mark did a presentation introducing Wancahin and WANLab. WANLab is an accelerator and incubator program designed specifically to assist ICOs, and to also treat the cancerous ICO disease mushrooming the entire cryptocurrency scene. There were also other speakers from NEM and Steemit present that night. The post-meetup networking session went well, and a handful of interested parties from Malaysia expressed their enthusiasm to cooperate with Wanchain.

Bryan giving an amazing talk.

The next meetup was held in Cellar, Kuala Lumpur. This event was considered to be the first official Wanchain presentation in Kuala Lumpur. An estimated crowd of 150 participants turned up, including the representatives of Wanchain, Stellar Lumens, NEM and Zcoin. Wanchain had the privilege of meeting many interesting individuals from various different industries. Through this purposeful meetup, a number of discussions surrounding the topic of possible future collaborations with startups, blockchain companies and software houses were initiated and continued even after the event. There are countless potential business opportunities and collaborations to be initiated, as Wanchain managed to come in touch with all key personnel during their visit.

This is just the beginning of Wanchain’s journey in the ASEAN countries. More exciting news and collaborations are underway as Wanchain continues to expand into the rapidly growing blockchain space in ASEAN, something that we may all look forward to.
