I’m curious how you define and identify “ego” in this context. I think the line(s) between confidence, over confidence, and ego can be somewhat blurry.

From the perspective of focusing on arrogance, then I see the problem as primarily surfacing in terms of “I’m better and smarter than others, so you should listen to me, and not them.” I see this as extremely toxic. It can 1) demoralize others as they are dismissed or insulted by the egotist, and 2) potentially spread as an appropriate attitude for other top performers.

I’d like to hear more of your thoughts.
