The story of nike logo

Nike is one of the most famous brands in the world. Its logo is so simple and powerful that it intrigues everyone, here is the story and the meaning of its design.

The Nike logo was created in 1971, by Carolyn Davidson then a graphic design student at Portland State University, and referred to the mark and movement of a teacher checking in correct response.

Above all, the Nike logo symbolizes fast, fluid and confident movement, illustrating the confident and graceful demeanor of athletes. Wanting to stand out from the competition, especially Adidas, Phil Knight, founder of the brand, wanted to have a fluid and simple logo, which represents a movement of speed and fluidity.

The meaning of the Nike logo has a mythological part. First, the Greek goddess of victory called “Nike” inspired the name of the brand. The shape of the goddess’s wing inspired the comma of the Nike logo; which gives the brand’s logo a strong personality.

When designing their logo, the Nike company mainly opted for the color red as a symbol of passion, energy and joy. The white color is synonymous with purity and grace.

The Nike logo is now one of the most recognized logos in the world and the most loved for the image it conveys. Stephen A. Greyser, professor at Hardvard Business School described the Nike logo as “the living and vibrant symbol of the brand”.
