Interesting article. Another theory of how chile seeds made their way around other parts of the world is through birds. Bird migration from the America’s to other parts of the world as birds like eating chiles because the seeds are not hot to them.

In regards to the language, I find interesting how in areas of Mexico like Oaxaca the indigenous languages contain some Malay sentence structure and their art work is very similar to Indonesian art work. In Mexico City “Awas” means be-careful, same as in Malaysia. This all to say that I don’t think all the links are related to colonialism but that there were already links in pre-colonial history through sea migration and trade.
